MDI Landscape Architects Inc. is a boutique consulting firm based in Victoria, British Columbia. We provide a full suite of design services to the public sector and to private landowners in the fields of Site Planning, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. Foundation to the firm's design approach is investigating and managing community expectations and site opportunities and constraints - critical starting points in developing well-adapted and sustainable solutions. Whether working at heavily modified urban sites or more naturalized sites, MDI strives to create engaging and beautiful landscapes that fit context, and that enhance or restore natural systems in the long term.
SCOTT MURDOCH

Scott is an accomplished biologist, landscape architect and environmental designer with over 25 years of environmental and urban design experience. His cross disciplinary background and work experience enables him to collaborate effectively with professionals in other disciplines. He has coordinated numerous multidisciplinary projects including highly complex mixed use developments (Crosstown, The Atrium, 1515 Douglas, Esquimalt Town Square), rainwater and watershed management plans and park planning and design projects from concept to construction. Scott is passionate about nature based solutions and integrating natural systems into our urban designs.
MELISSA LIM

Melissa is a Registered Landscape Architect with 15 years of project experience and has been with MDI Landscape Architects Inc. since 2007. Melissa’s educational background is in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Architectural Technology. Her experience working on a wide range of projects in a multidisciplinary environment allows her to communicate effectively at all stages of project development, and she brings her strong technical skills and horticultural knowledge to the design process.
JONNY DAVIS

Jonny is currently working towards becoming a registered landscape architect. He has six years post graduate experience in the field of landscape architecture and considerable practical experience in landscape construction from his original lands of Aotearoa, New Zealand, and British Columbia. Jonny has been an integral member of the MDI team since 2016. He consistently contributes his graphic illustration and design skills, and strong technical knowledge to deliver timely, robust solutions at all levels. Jonny is passionate about creating quality environments that encourage social interaction, increase accessibility to nature and promote the conservation of our planets' landscape systems.
TAMARA BONNEMAISON

Tamara is a Landscape Architect with nearly two decades of experience in leading and coordinating landscape design and ecological restoration projects throughout British Columbia. She brings a comprehensive understanding of how to integrate natural systems with the built environment while creating excellent spaces for people. Tam believes that providing interactions with nature into people’s everyday experiences can have profound positive impacts on health, well-being, and the livability of dense urban environments. Tam is presently working on a wide range of projects that require collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders, including rooftop amenity spaces, municipal streetscapes and plazas, affordable housing projects, LEED and Living Building Challenge projects, integrated rainwater management and large civic and infrastructure projects.
LEIGH CAMPBELL

Leigh has a background in planning and landscape architecture with 15 years of combined public and private sector parks planning experience. She has developed trail feasibility plans, design guidelines, park management plans and has delivered successful engagement programs. Leigh brings a broad range of planning and design experience to the MDI team and contributes to projects from concept through construction.

Kai graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture. He gained practical experience by working for a design build firm and has three years of experience as a landscape intern. Kai has helped with the production of application and construction documents for subdivisions, sports fields, schools, trail systems and park designs and was involved in construction administration. He hopes to continue his passion of producing places for people to engagement with the natural world.

Catherine is a Registered Landscape Architect with over a decade of experience. With a focus on place making and natural systems design, Catherine works with planning, design, and restoration of large natural parks; the creation of quality outdoor living environments for developments; trail network planning and design; and educational landscape design. Catherine's technical skills are based on years of experience collaborating with different disciplines, clients, and contractors and engaging with the public and stakeholders. As an outdoor person with an environmental focus, Catherine has had the privilege to work on a broad range of projects across Alberta and British Columbia.

Sarah has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph and moved to Victoria after finishing her degree. She has hands on experience working in garden maintenance and is passionate about creating sustainable spaces that help nurture our relationship with the natural world. Sarah is beginning to work towards becoming a registered landscape architect and is excited to continue creating restorative and environmentally immersive landscapes.

A visual anthropologist and geographer turned landscape designer, an advocate for data-driven design, Devin’s work bridges GIS, remote sensing, CAD, and arch viz workflows – workflows he recently shared in the graduate-level Visual Communications course he taught at the University of Toronto. Devin excels in concept design, 3D modelling and grading analysis.
